Terms and Conditions
  • This competition is open to all Canadian residents aged 16 and over, with the exception of L’Oréal (Canada) Limited employees, their immediate families or friends, or anyone connected with such persons or the competition. If such connection is discovered, relavant entrants will automatically be disqualified.

  • Entrants must only use L’Oréal Professionnel Color and styling products available in Canada on the model and no other products.

  • Entrants must create a well-executed, inspirational, modern color on a female model. This must be complimented by a beautiful style, finish and total look taking inspiration from upcoming trends.

  • The model can change from the Photographic entry.

  • Each salon can enter a maximum of 2 times per category, in all 3 categories (i.e. 6 possible entries per salon in total).

  • You may not enter the same photo for more than one award category; each entry must use a new model.

  • Your model can be a professional or an amateur. Never underestimate the power of a beautiful face.

  • You may use hair pieces and extensions as long as they are not more than 20% of the final look.

  • The entrants salon must be trading at the time of entry. If the salon is trading with L’Oréal, it must be fully compliant with L’Oréal’s conditions of sale and credit terms at all stages of the competition.

  • The models used must be 16 or over and have had an allergy alert test 48 hours before the color application.

  • You are entering on behalf of your salon, therefore prizes are awarded to the salon rather than individuals within a team and if any members of the winning team leave their salon, they forfeit their prize experiences. You must remain employed until May 30th, 2020 to claim any prizes. The hair colorist and hair stylist must get the consent of the salon owner(s) to enter into this competition.

  • All prizes must be claimed during the allotted time mentioned in the Prize section of each category.

  • Entrants grant L’Oréal (Canada) Limited with a transferable, exclusive, worldwide, royalty free, and perpetual license in all copyright, moral or other rights under the Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988 to use the photos and any materials, videos and images generated during the L’Oréal Color Trophy competition (whether they proceed to the Regional Semi Final or Grand Finale or not) for any purpose whatsoever (including without limitation, use on L’Oréal Professionnel websites, Facebook pages and blogs, promotion of the L’Oréal Color Trophy event, PR content print and online, editorial, advertising and advertorial content, trade press and any future competition promotion print and online and educational or internal purposes, etc).

  • All entries must be uploaded onto www.colorstyletrophy.ca and the photograph must be in a tiff or jpeg format with a minimum size of 3MB and a maximum size of 5MB. The photograph can be uploaded from a smart phone or digital camera, but no scans of printed photos will be accepted.

  • The photograph may be a head or full-length shot but no more than 1 year old at the date of entry. The results will also be posted on this website.

  • Entrants in the SCHOOL Award category will be contacted by email of their win as their competition is entirely an online competition. Only one participant will be declared the winner and will be presented the trophy during the Grand Finale on stage.

  • All entries must be uploaded by January 31st 2020.

  • Late entries will not be permitted.

  • The judges’ decision is final for all stages and no correspondence will be entered into regarding this decision.

  • The prizes are as stated and there are no alternatives or cash substitutes.

  • The winning salon and team members must be prepared to take part in publicity accompanying or resulting from the competition. No additional compensation will be awarded for such promotional activities.

  • Any images supplied by L’Oréal to winning salons must always be credited to L’Oréal Color Trophy when being used for any purpose whatsoever.

  • If the prize is declined or if the winner forfeits the prize under these terms and conditions, then the judges may at their absolute discretion select an alternative winner.

  • L’Oréal reserves the right in its absolute discretion to add to or waive any of these terms and conditions, or to cancel the competition at any stage, in the event of circumstances arising beyond its reasonable control.

  • By entering this competition, entrants will be deemed to be bound by and have accepted these terms and conditions.

  • Registration fees are non-refundable.
  • The Photographic entries will be judged by a minimum of four hairdressing industry leaders selected by L’Oreal and a L’Oreal Professionnel Technical Manager.

  • The photograph submitted must showcase the entrant’s interpretation of the 2019 brief.

  • The color work performed on the model should be technically well-executed and be a modern and beautiful interpretations of upcoming trends showcasing the expertise and ability of the colorist to create a unique look.

  • The hair must be in optimal condition – if the hair is in bad condition the model will not be considered as a Grand Finalist.

  • A cut, if featured, must show exceptional technical skills

  • The finish on the hair must not be overloaded with product.

  • The hair must suit the model’s face and bone structure.

  • You may use hair pieces and extensions as long as they are not more than 20% of the final look.

  • The hair color will be the overriding factor in any decision making process.
  • Models do not have to be professional but they have to be confident, self-assured, “own” their look and walk convincingly down the catwalk.

  • Models need to be photogenic as they may feature on the front cover of the professional press.
  • The clothes, makeup and accessories should enhance and complement the overall look that the colorist and hair stylist have created and not detract from it.
Judging Process
  • For all teams that qualify for the Grand Final, hair color, hair style, clothes and make-up must remain the same as photo submission.

  • L’Oreal will verify this as follows : At the Grand Final models will be scrutinized by L’Oréal and if the models are not exactly the same as at the photo submission the team will be given the opportunity to correct the look on the spot. If the team are unable to do this, they will be instantly disqualified.

  • Teams will have 1.5 hours in which to replicate their winning look from the photo submission.

  • Al teams must be prepared to answer questions from a selection of the judges about their coloring technique and products used during the prep time.

  • Entrants will be required to produce 2 copies of a photograph of the model prior to any color work performed on her hair. One copy will be placed on the work station and one copy will be given to the judges to assist them understanding the expertise and extent of the color work performed on the model. Failure to do this will result in disqualification.

  • The judges will select the winner, 2nd place and 3rd place for the three main categories: L’Oreal Color Trophy, Masters, Next Generation and Men's Trends .

  • The overall winners will be announced during the Night Event on April 5th, 2020 in Montreal.

  • The winner is determined by an average of all judges scores. If a unanimous decision cannot be reached by the judges, the highest marked entrant will be declared the winner.
People's Choice Awards
  • In the interest of having everyone interested in the looks that are being created and to showcase the talent of the teams competing at the Grand Finale, L’Oreal will be running a separate online People’s Choice Award.

  • The voting will commence at 12pm and will end at 8pm on April 5th, 2020.

  • During this period only, anyone, including customers, family, friends and even the greater public will be able to go online to vote for their favorite look. The votes will be public and will be monitored by L’Oreal to ensure compliance in all entries with the Terms and Conditions of the People’s Choice Award.

  • Fraudulent, deceptive, manipulated, incentivized or irregular voting practices are not permitted and will lead to disqualification. For the avoidance of doubt this includes, but is not limited to, soliciting votes using unconventional methods (by way of example only vote to exchange groups or use of this part websites) and/or offering payment for votes, and/or offering prizes (i.e. spa treatments) and incentives (i.e. discounted hair services or goody bags to a client) for votes, an/or any other irregular voting practice that the promoter deems in its reasonable opinion subverts legitimate voting practices.

  • You can legitimately canvass votes by publicizing your entry to your family, friends and contacts on your social network profiles and via your salon to your clients.

  • The overall winning salon team will be presented with the L’Oreal Color Trophy People’s Choice Award 2020 and will be required to come on stage to collect their award at the L’Oreal Color Trophy Grand Final.

The participant authorizes L’Oréal Professionnel to use the photographic material submitted in any media (including Internet) for any legal purpose, without any further compensation or notice. (except for the Masters Award category).

The participant recognizes that he or she holds all intellectual property rights and guarantees that no third party, including the model and the photographer, hold rights, titles or interest in the material.

The participants who do not abide by the conditions and regulations of the L’Oréal Color Trophy may be disqualified.

L’Oréal Professionnel reserves the right to modify or amend the registration rules and conditions or to refuse a registration.
